Week 1- "Becoming the Woman God Wants Me To Be"

Praise God for a new day!

A friend and sister in Christ recently suggested that I pick up a book called Becoming the Woman God wants Me to Be: A 90-day Guide to Living the Proverbs 31 Life. For those that are not familiar Proverbs 31 covers the attributes of a virtuous woman of God. The next several entries will be dedicated to providing a space for people to share about their experiences while reading the book. And for those that don't have the book but would like to follow the blog and dedicate time to God will have an opportunity to contribute to the online dialouge.
For those who are interested in purchasing the book you can preview it here:

What's your personal vision statement?
The first exercise for this week is to create your Personal Vision Statement.
1. List two unique personal qualities (e.g. creativity, enthusiasm
2. List one or two ways you enjoy expressing those qualities when interacting with others (e.g. through supporting, inspiring)
3. If the world was perfect, how would it look for you? What are people doing? How are they interacting
4. Combine the three answers above into a single statement

The book's example:
1. Engergectic, powerful
2. Challenging, motivating
3. Everyone is actively serving God by serving others, thereby making the world a better place.
4. My Personal Vision Statement is to use my energetic, powerful communication skills to challenge and motivate Christians to go into all the world, impacting lives and mkaing the world a better place.
My Personal Vision Statement is to use my musical and entrepreneurial talents to empower and minister to people all over the world to walk in boldness for Christ with their steps ordered by God for His glory.

Your Turn:
What's your personal vision? Feel free to post and share your unique vision statement.

What am I asking for?

Solomon asked God for wisdom and knowledge....

God appeared to Solomon wanted to know what should he provide the newly appointed King of Israel. Now Solomon could have asked for anything yet simply asked for wisdom and knowledge. He did not request to have riches, long life, honor, a nice home, fancy car, a prosperous job/buisness/career, a spouse, protection from his enemies, children, etc. I'm sure I could fill up the next few pages with what he could have requested from the Most Holy, Omnipotent one, who can do all things.

2 Chronicles 1: 11-12

11 And God said to Solomon, because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for thyself, that thou mayest judge my people, over whom I have made thee king:

12 Wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall there any after thee have the like.

How awesome is that??? Wow. Now I ask myself what am I asking God for? Maybe I should put wisdom and knowledge at the top of my list.

James 4- Forget me, what about Jesus?

So God is so good and he always provides the right word at the right time. Once again while talking with my prayer partner and friend I stumbled across this scripture and thought it would be a great topic for discussion.

James 4: 1-4

Verse 1 really stuck out for me.

James 4:1
1From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?

I started to think about times that I have had arguments or fights with other people and how the source of those arguments may have stemmed from the lusts of my flesh. Like dang Lord, was it because I was being selfish? Was it because I was self-centered and solely thinking of my own agenda and gain? Was it because I was being prideful and refused to humble myself? Was it because I didn't want to be wrong and admit that I was wrong?

Because pride, selfishness and being self-absorbed are all characteristics of the flesh. Conversely, humility, patience, a spirit of forgiveness, giving people room to grow, sowing peace, not being quick to judge and assume, are characteristics of God.

Thank God for God for saving a wretch like me. I've got a long way to go y'all but I'm getting there. :-)

What are your thoughts??

Bible Study: The Book of Deuteronomy Chap. 1-5

In this bible study series the intent is rededicate ourselves to reading the word on a daily basis. This is a weekly bible study post where I will update each week with a new reading for discussion. The first topic of discussion will be the book of Deuteronomy. I thought to separate the book into two sectons. The first section will be chapters 1-5. As you read feel free to post your comments, questions, or "aha" moments.

Be blessed!!

Welcome!

This marks the very first post of...And Then the Lord... a blog dedicated to discussing the word of God and everything pertaining to our daily walk with Christ. You may ask: Why this Title?? The title comes from a common phrase shared amongst me and a friend everytime we would have a conversation. No matter what the topic we realized that the God-factor was everpresent and we would always concluded with, "and then the Lord". I hope this space serves for insightful conversations and encouraging words of wisdom. Feel free to post your comments and suggestions for future topics.
